This past weekend, the Clean Line Energy team cycled 165 miles from Houston to Austin to support the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. It was Clean Line’s third year to sponsor a team and my third year as team captain. This year we had our biggest team yet—folks from TradeWind, Keiwit, SWCA, Lock Lord, E.ON, and other companies joined us for the two-day ride. Together we raised $21,000 for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society!
The team set out from Houston at 7 a.m. on Saturday. Over 14,000 riders filled I-10 with friendly shouts of “passing on the left,” “slowing,” and “rolling.” As we rode further out of Houston and towards the ranch, bluebonnets, primroses, and other Texas wildflowers began to blanket the fields along the highway. We were greeted at the ranch by our volunteers and lots of food. While the semi-professional cyclists from TradeWind rode an additional 30 miles, the rest of us kicked back and enjoyed each other’s company and a perfect spring day in Texas. Wayne, our Executive Vice President for Engineering and Grill Master, and his family cooked up 40 pounds of fajitas and mixed 50 avocadoes’ worth of guacamole, which quickly disappeared.
Although some of us were hesitant to mount our bikes again on Sunday, we got back in the saddle and made it through the tough, hilly terrain of Bastrop State Park. Thankfully the rain held off and we all made it to Austin!
Big thank you to everyone who participated. We enjoyed the camaraderie, the challenge, and contributing to a cause that is close to many of our hearts.
